Holidays at Home

This IS the most wonderful time of the year!  Holiday decorating has always been a love of mine and this year I've added a few new additions to my decor - one of which being a project I've had in my head since finding my grandmother's vintage Christmas ornaments!

Here she is in all her magical glory!  (and she lights up)  After finding this display mannequin at a flea market - I knew I found my "muse".  A bunch of t-pins and all my grandmother's ornaments and this is my new favorite piece!

I am always looking for new ways to use decor items such as this soda crate and glove mold hand (behind the wreath).  More of grandma's goodies complete the look!

I've been waiting for 11 months to put up this Christmas Tree sign and I found it the perfect backdrop to my thermos collection!

Finally, this candle set was marked "as is" at a local Antique store!  "As is" for some is "perfect kitch" to me!!  Adding a bit of holiday humor into my kitchen.

I hope you have enjoyed my holiday home!  Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to you and your families!

pickin!

We went picking for a few hours and brought home some goodies. Here are a few snapshots from our trip. Despite the boiling temperatures, we were able to score some pretty good finds! We didn't take everything home with us that we saw, we wish we could have.
Picking done at Yankee Flea Market, Inc.
Open Tuesday-Sunday
1311 Park Street (route 20)
Palmer, MA 01069
#413-283-4910
minutes from the MA Pike (take exit 8)

Can't you just picture the old New England kitchens these once stood in? These spice tins remind us of some good ol' home cooking.
We use vintage thermoses for lamps. If you are interested in one of ours, please contact us!

and yes, we are the Flea Circus, but clowns scare us at times!
See that vintage BINGO game under the clown? That came home with us! A BIG score!
Check out the patina on this vintage boxing game!

These items went home with me, Aly. Can you tell I'm a teacher? A plaid lunch box, old math books and a table runner just jumped right into my basket. I love the robin's egg blue color in the table runner. Oh, and that cute little elephant below went home with me too! Something about the yellow stole my heart.

Oh, yes and this sign was the best!

Some items found we did not post yet, but will be revamped into some new items that we will share and will be for sale at Crompton Collective and at our
Fall Open Studio, so stay tuned!

Best!

We thought that we'd share what our homes look like. We are always revamping, but here is Aly's kitchen. Nothing fancy, or glam, just a small kitchen with good flea market finds, good eats and good company! What else could you ask for? Enjoy!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

It's that time of year when driving down the street makes me drool over the pristine lawns and lush floral that adorn cute homes.  I think "what do they have that I don't?"... answer:  a green thumb!

So after managing to squeak out some container herbs last year, I thought I'd out do myself and try flowers.  After googling for the 800th time the difference between Annuals and Perennials (which personally I think the terms are backwards but whatever) - I hit the local nursery.  My mission:  COLOR.

When I got home I set out to do what I know best - look for junk to fill with flowers!  Here is what I did:

I am no where near done as this little arrangement exhausted both me and my wallet.  So while I work on installment 2, head on over to Funky Junk Interiors and see what she's been working on!

If you are feeling overwhelmed with a garden scenario (like myself) - start small... look for containers/vessels/rusty pails and teapots.  If you are using them indoors, simply fit a glass (or I've used recycled yogurt cups) into the item to allow it to hold water.

Here is a great re-use of a vintage thermos!  Already meant for liquids, this makes a great statement even with the simplest of flowers!

Happy gardening!

Stop Wine-ing... Start Crafting!

Ok Flea Fans... settle in, pour yourself a glass of wine and DON'T TOSS THAT CORK!!!

If you are like me, you save corks.  For most of them, the write the date and special occasion and toss them in a glass vase.  Others, I just toss in (because nothing screams "I have a problem" like a large vase of wine corks).
Trying out my new app: Beautiful Mess (how fitting)

However, after starting to wonder if perhaps I did have a problem (hahah, who am I kidding, I'm a mom - wine is a necessity), I set out to find some fun crafty ideas for corks.  Whoa!  There is a lot out there!

Here are just a few of the many I found - some useful, some funky - but one thing is for sure - this type of crafting is right up my ally!  I mean, how many craft projects are there where gathering your supplies is just as fun as the end result!

**Warning:  consuming wine prior to crafting may result in one heck of a project

This one BLEW. MY. MIND!- Dying cork with Rit Dye (tutorial found here)

Dyed cork - who knew!!

Cork board - tutorial found via Suze Geeks Out

Wine Cork Pendants - tutorial found via Fiskars
Cork Chandelier via Shannon Quimby

Cork Garland via Anthropologie window

I could seriously go on and on.  For more inspiration you can always search Pinterest.  Just make sure you have 2 hours and a bottle of wine :)

Have you done any crafts with corks?  Send us a pic or link to your blog!
